Carl Smith joined Indiana’s News Center as a Multimedia Journalist in March of 2008. In his role, Carl develops, shoots, writes and reports news stories for the networks of Indiana's NewsCenter and www.indianasnewscenter.com.

Carl began his career in radio broadcasting as on air personality in Lexington, KY hosting the mid day shift on WNVL and as a Promotions Director and on air personality at WLKT.

From there he traveled to other markets and ended up working in Austin, TX at KHFI and in Nashville, TN at WVOL and WLAC.

Eventually he began working in film production and soon began a career in production specializing in Country music videos.

While working his way up the ladder from Production Assistant to Producer he had the honor of producing for such acts as; Charlie Daniels, Aarron Tippin, Garth Brooks, Jo Dee Messina, and many more.

In 2002, he was nominated for Producer of the year by the Academy of Country Music Awards.

During a short hiatus, Carl managed movie theatres to get a different perspective of how the ‘other side’ of the film industry worked.

Carl soon decided that the best way to be challenged in a career was to take his knowledge of broadcast and film, then incorporate it with his love for the news.

This is where he begins his journalistic interests at Indiana’s NewsCenter.

His mother is a retired school teacher and state employee in KY, and his father is a prominent music professor with a PHD in Ethnomusicology at Kentucky State University.

He is the youngest of five children and his siblings reside in both Kentucky and Tennessee.
