Emmy nominated journalist Brien McElhatten comes to Indiana’s NewsCenter from Ball State University where he studied telecommunications.

While at Ball State, Brien hosted Connections Live, a six-time Emmy award winning entertainment magazine. He also reported and anchored newscasts for NewsWatch and Newslink Indiana.

Prior to his time at Ball State, Brien attended Ohio University where he studied telecommunications and political science. There he covered the political beat for campus radio station ACRN.

Brien hails from the Buckeye State, having graduated from Bucyrus High School.
That’s where his love of television and journalism began. During his senior year at Bucyrus High, Brien was selected to be a student anchor for Channel One News, a daily newscast beamed to over 10,000 middle and high schools across the county.

A self-described Air Force brat, Brien had the privilege of traveling across the country while growing up. Seeing the country’s diversity and natural beauty made him want to explore more of his world-which led him to a career in broadcast news.

An Eagle Scout, Brien enjoys fishing, hiking and anything outdoors. He says he can’t wait to see what Northeast Indiana has to offer.
