Mary Collins

By Bill Schneider

Mary Collins anchors Indiana's NewsCenter mornings on WPTA-TV 21Alive. She is proud to call Fort Wayne home. Born and raised in Allen County she feels no greater reward than giving back to a community that has given her so much.

A graduate of Homestead High School Mary continued her education by attending Purdue University in West Lafayette where she graduated with honors in broadcast journalism.

Mary began her career right here in the Summit City working both as a TV talk show host and a morning radio Disc Jockey. In 1990, Mary left Fort Wayne for Mississippi. At WXVT-TV (CBS), Mary took the reigns as news director and main anchor. In 1993, Mary served in the same capacity at WTVO-TV (ABC) in Rockford, Illinois, taking both stations from last to first place in those markets.

Mary returned to Fort Wayne television in 1996. Since that time she and her husband Tad have been blessed with three little boys. Needless to say Mary keeps very busy both on and off the job.

And Mary is proud to play an active role in our community serving on many boards and volunteering her time speaking and serving for a number of charitable events and organizations.

Mary is thrilled to be working, living and raising a family in her hometown. She has long known she wanted to spend her career serving people. "It's the most rewarding part of my job... seeing the difference you can make. I get to meet some extraordinary people and tell viewers about their good deeds on a daily basis. It makes my job and being home so special." Over the years Mary's been recognized and earned several regional and state awards for her reporting and anchoring.

And while Mary's proud of her accomplishments in broadcasting, she's quick to point out her greatest blessings are her husband, Tad and sons Cameron, Christopher and Samuel.
