Jane Hersha

By Bill Schneider

I have been a part of the NewsCenter family for thirty years. I received my education at Lebanon High School, Butler University, and IPFW. Before I became a member of the Newsteam in 1981 as an anchor and reporter, I did special events and public service programs at the station.

Over the years, I have served on boards and chaired committees for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Triad, the American Red Cross, the Mental Health Association, the Sister Cities Committee, the Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, Southwest Allen County Schools Parents Clubs, Children's Miracle Network, Easter Seals and United Cerebral Palsy.

Many of my off-work hours are spent giving talks and programs for groups in the NewsCenter viewing area. And when I have true free time to myself, I like to travel, read and watch TV. I love the old movies for total escapism, and I enjoy music and food!

I love animals and have had quite a collection brought home by our two sons when they were young. Currently, Rich and I just have two stray cats, who adopted us and allow us to live with them.

We count among our greatest blessings our two grandsons, and my favorite word is 'nana' spoken by these sweet little boys. What joy they bring us!

I have truly loved my work at the station, especially the talk shows and special projects I get to do. I have done nearly sixty telethons for Riley Hospital, Easter Seals and United Cerebral Palsy, meeting many truly caring people who achieve beyond all expectations. And my work with children has helped me "keep the faith." The hundreds I have met over the years doing the telethons and "Wednesday's Child" give real meaning to the words, human spirit.

Our "Women In Leadership" project has allowed me to meet and profile some of the most talented, dedicated and committed women in our viewing area. It is a marvelously humbling and uplifting experience to be able to share these achievers with our viewers.

I am humbled that you invite us into your home and life each day, and I am delighted when you say "Hi" when our paths cross.
