Indiana High Schools to Get Cash Reward For Improved Graduation Numbers

By WISE Web News

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana is launching a program to award up to $20,000 to public high school principals and their staffs for the best improvements in graduation rates. State Superintendent Tony Bennett says the program will reward 12 schools that have the biggest increases between the current school year and next school year. He predicts the program will push schools to find innovative ways to graduate more students. Ten Indiana high school schools with at least 300 students will get $20,000 each. Two other schools with enrollments under 300 with receive $10,000 each. Each principal will get up to $5,000. The rest of the money will be divided among teachers and others deemed instrumental in the improvements. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
