FORT WAYNE, Indiana (Indiana's NewsCenter)--SOMETHING DIFFERENT HAS TAKEN UP RESIDENCE AT THE AUBURN CORD DEUSENBERG MUSEUM…SOMETHING THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CLASSIC AUTOMOBILES BUT EVERYTHING TO DO WITH LINE AND FORM AND INSPIRATION.

Matt: He wanted to make nature part of the building and the building part of nature. And it really blends and becomes part of the natural beauty around it.

THE UPSTAIRS HALL GALLERY OF THE MUSEUM IS PLAYING HOST TO FIFTY WORKS OF ART, ARCHITECTURAL RENDERINGS OF FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT DESIGNS IN THE FAMOUS ARCHITECTS OWN HAND. FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT WAS ARROGANT, EGOTISTICAL, SELF ABSORBED…AND A TRUE ARTISTIC GENIUS WHOSE BUILDINGS NESTLE INTO THE LOCAL LANDSCAPE AND BECOME PART OF IT. FIFTY OF HIS WATERCOLOR AND PEN RENDERINGS MAKE UP THIS EXHIBIT. THESE MARVELOUS PICTURES BY THEMSELVES ARE PROOF OF WRIGHTS GENIUS. THIS IS THE CUDNEY HOUSE IN ARIZONA, JUTTING FROM THE HILLSIDE LIKE A ROCK OUTCROP…LOOKING AS THOUGH IT WAS CREATED BY NATURE ALONG WITH THE SURROUNDING TERRAIN.

Matt: Here we’re looking at the Frank Lloyd Wright design for the Guggenheim Museum in New York City, and it’s a fabulous museum of modern art and it really set the tone for modern museum design. It’s a spiral and when you enter the museum it’s a continuous ramp all the way to the top.

WRIGHT DESIGNED EVERY ASPECT OF HIS BUILDINGS, INCLUDING THE FURNITURE. THIS IS THE DINING ROOM OF THE SIJISTAN HOUSE IN LOS ANGELES, ITS HIGH WINDOWS FLOODING THE ROOM WITH LIGHT. WRIGHT DESIGNED THE TABLE AND CHAIRS, THE EXPOSED DINNERWARE STORAGE…EVEN THE SILVERWARE. AND THIS IS WRIGHT’S MOST FAMOUS HOME…POSSIBLY THE MOST FAMOUS HOME IN THE WORLD…FALLING WATER IN SOUTHWESTERN PENNSYLVANIA..BUILT OVER A WATERFALL AND, IN THE OPINION OF MANY, ENHANCING RATHER THAN DETRACTING FROM THE SURROUNDING NATURAL BEAUTY.

THERE IS A DIRECT WRIGHT CONNECTION TO THE ACD MUSEUM. TWO OF WRIGHTS CARS LIVE HERE, A 1952 CROSLEY ROADSTER, AND A 1929 CORD L-29… BOTH INDIANA BUILT AUTOMOBILES…BOTH PURCHASED NEW BY THE ARCHITECT… AND MORE THAN REASON ENOUGH TO CELEBRATE THIS AMERICAN ORIGINAL WHO DROVE THEM.
