Fort Wayne, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Each Month, I get to tell folks about someone who's done something nice for others.

We've received some excellent nominations from viewers.

A dear friend of hers nominated Hattie Dunbar.

For decades, the single mother of a 25 year old daughter has taken in nieces, nephews, god sons and daughters, neighbor kids, any teen who needs strict guidance and a lot of love.

With her help, these children didn't have to go into the foster care system.

With their parents' blessings, Hattie opens up her home, wallet, arms and heart.

It's natural, and she's her daughter's idol.

Hattie said, "For years, I've just loved kids. It just feels good to see them growing up and doing something with their lives and their children, it's beautiful."

Her daughter Natalya Dunbar said, "Being an only child, I always wanted brothers and sisters and felt envious of my friends at school who had them, I was always envious, so it was kind of a blessing."

Hattie told me she's had friends through the years encourage her to basically get a life. She says this "is" her life, and she wants it to continue .
