By Linda Jackson

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Nineteen years ago, with the help of her husband and several other volunteers, Sue coordinated the Challenger Baseball program through Little League which also grew into a basketball program in Fort Wayne.

Young people with physical or mental challenges get to play sports they love.

They begin as children and sometimes continue into their 30s.

A co-worker of Sue's at Forest Park Elementary School in Fort Wayne nominated her, saying she really knows how to make those young people feel like sports stars.

Julie Houser said, "They're with each other all year long and have a social connection being with their peers and being able to express themselves athletically where, not always, are they accepted to organized sports. She has unconditional love. She brings these individuals into her family."

Sue Michell said, "I've gotten more out of it than the kids. They love coming and playing. I think the kids are the angels. They're the ones who make this whole program special."

Sue is not one to bask in all kinds of attention. She's going to step down a bit from her duties this year to spend more time with her grandchildren, but she'll take them to plenty of games!

The teams play at donated fields and at a gym at Turnstone.

Viewers are encouraged to log on and nominate an Angel.
