Fort Wayne Philharmonic announces Chorus auditions

Lovers of orchestral choral music have the exciting opportunity to audition to perform as part of The Fort Wayne Philharmonic Chorus. Auditions will take place on Monday, July 25, 2011 from 5:00-8:00PM at Plymouth Congregational Church, 501 West Berry Street, Fort Wayne.

“The chorus will be adding around 100 voices to perform this year’s repertoire and to balance with the orchestra,” says Chorus Director Robert Nance. “We’ll be building up both our skills and our numbers.”

Those auditioning will be asked to complete a simple music questionnaire before proceeding to the three-part audition. The audition process will begin with a warm-up period and several scales to determine vocal range. The singer may then choose to perform either a prepared piece or part of the National Anthem with provided accompaniment. Those choosing to do a prepared piece must bring music for the accompanist. Finally, the audition will end with a short listening and sight-singing exercise.

Director Nance will assess the musical skills of each person who auditions in order to determine if he or she is a good fit for the Phil Chorus. All who audition will be notified of Director Nance’s decision by mail within two weeks. Those accepted will be expected to adhere to Phil Chorus policies and procedures, including attending mandatory rehearsals scheduled during the six weeks prior to each concert.

Choral concerts at First Wayne Street United Methodist Church are scheduled for Fridays at 7:00PM on Oct. 21, 2011, and February 24, 2012. The Chorus will also perform the season finale Masterworks concert, Mozart’s Requiem, on stage at the Embassy Theatre with the Philharmonic orchestra on May 12, 2012.
