Event Description
Global Health Initiative, a student organization at IPFW, is organizing a 5k run on Saturday, March 30th, 2013 to support a trip to the San Lorenzo Health Clinic in Ecuador. Ten students from IPFW will be traveling to Ecuador in May to assist in the surgical clinic.
“This trip offers undergraduate students hands-on experience in a surgical setting, something not offered in the US,” says Brittany Byerley, a pre-med student and President of Global Health Initiative
In order to raise funds for the program costs associated with the trip, Global Health Initiative will be hosting the Global Health 5k Run/Walk. The program costs will cover the students’ costs while in Ecuador and help support the clinic’s work in the surrounding community. Any money raised over the amount needed for those costs will be donated directly to the clinic.
“The first Global Health 5k was a tremendous success. We had almost 200 individuals participate and were able to raise over $3,600 for our cause. We hope to surpass those numbers from last year and make this 5k even more successful,” says Philip Huynh, the Race Director and Vice-President of Global Health Initiative
The 5k will be held on the campus of IPFW. Registration will be $15 for individuals or $12 per person for groups of 4 or more. After March 22th, late registration is $20 per person. Individuals who would like to participate can register online at www.ghiipfw.org . For more information please contact Philip Huynh at (260)255-6650 or email at ghiipfw@gmail.com
Global Health Initiative seeks to address global concerns in the unequal distribution of health among those living in poverty, both around the world and in the community. The organization was founded in 2011.
