Event Description

The Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Omnibus Lecture Series to be held Wednesday, October 23, features New York Times best-selling author Jeannette Walls. Walls’ lecture, “The Glass Castle: Demon Hunting and Other Life Lessons,” begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Auer Performance Hall of the Rhinehart Music Center. The lecture is open to the public; however, free tickets are required. Doors to the performance hall open at 6:30 p.m.

Walls’ first novel and memoir, The Glass Castle, has sold 3.5 million copies in the United States alone and has been translated into 22 languages. It is being adapted by Paramount into a major motion picture. It was also named one of the Top 10 Books of the Decade by Amazon and has gone on to win numerous other awards, including the Christopher Award, the American Library Association’s Alex Award, and the Books for Better Living Award.

Heralded by critics, The Glass Castle recalls Wall’s unconventional upbringing in the care of unorthodox parents. Raised in the deserts of the American Southwest and a mining town in West Virginia, Walls and her siblings endured poverty and uncertainty, all while learning how to overcome their fears.

Free tickets are required for all Omnibus Lectures. Tickets may be obtained IN PERSON at the Larson Box Office in the Gates Athletics Center, 12:30–6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; ONLINE at ipfw.edu/box-office, with a convenience fee of $1; or DAY OF EVENT in the Rhinehart Music Center one hour before the lecture if seats remain.
For a parking map, more information, and speaker photos, visit omnibuslectures.org or contact Susan Alderman, University Relations and Communications, at 260-481-6165 or aldermas@ipfw.edu.
