Dr. Derek King, the nephew of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and a university professor, certified conflict reconciliation trainer and worldwide speaker on non-violence, will be the guest speaker for the Legacy of Peace Luncheon at the USF Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, June 5 at noon.
King’s luncheon speech occurs 50 years to the day since his famous uncle addressed the Fort Wayne region in the same facility on the subject of social justice and racial equality.
The Queens Literature and Art Club of Fort Wayne will present a series of inspiring monologues focused upon education, commitment and success as part of the luncheon agenda. A buffet meal will be served in the center’s Ballroom.
Legacy of Peace Luncheon tickets are $12, and can be purchased from the Fort Wayne Urban League, 2135 S. Hanna St., Fort Wayne, or at legacyofpeace.eventbrite.com through May 31. Fort Wayne’s Martin Luther King Jr. Club is the event sponsor.
The luncheon occurs in association with the university’s Future of Education event, with sessions at 4:30 and 7:15 in the USF Performing Arts Center that evening. Both sessions will examine the directions education will take, with the second session emphasizing education as a catalyst for community peace. The second session includes a complimentary boxed meal. The Future of Education is free with registration at futureofeducation2013.eventbrite.com.
