Event Description
The Good Shepherd Institute is offering the opportunity to take an in-depth and fresh look at marriage and weddings today by offering What God Has Joined Together: The Theology and Practice of Christian Marriage in Rite and Song. This 12th Annual Good Shepherd Institute Conference for clergy and church musicians will take place on the campus of Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana, November 6–8, 2011. For a complete schedule, list of speakers and to register go to www.ctsfw.edu/GSI. You may also call 260-452-2224 for additional information.
“This conference is the Institute’s response to the many requests from pastors and church musicians for us to tackle the difficult issues and the challenges so often connected to weddings and marriage today,” explained CTS Kantor Richard C. Resch, Co-Director of the Good Shepherd Institute. “We promise a stellar group of presenters, good discussion and many tastes of heavenly music. Please join us!”
Topics will run the gamut from music selection, to pre-marriage counseling, to an in-depth look at the Marriage Rite from the Lutheran Service Book. In addition to members of the seminary’s faculty, additional presenters include Rev. David C. Fleming of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids, Michigan and Dr. Scott Bruzek of St. John Lutheran Church, Wheaton, Illinois.
As always, music will be an important part of the conference. There will be offerings from the seminary’s Schola Cantorum and the annual Hymn Festival with the Seminary Kantorei. Other music presentations include Musik Ekklesia, directed by Philip M. Spray of Advent Lutheran Church, Zionsville, Indiana; an organ recital by Prof. Craig J. Cramer of Notre Dame University; and Choral Evening Prayer with the Children’s Choir of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Des Peres, Missouri, Mark L. Bender, director.
