The 200th anniversary of the arrival of Adoniram and Ann Judson in Burma will be celebrated at Fort Wayne Baptist Church, 2323 Fairfield Avenue, on Saturday, October 12 at 2:00 p.m. with several Burmese churches participating.

Adoniram Judson is credited with starting the American Protestant Mission Movement and inspiring people of many denominations to go throughout the world spreading the Word about Jesus Christ. He inspired Isaac McCoy to come to the then western frontier of the United States, Fort Wayne, as a missionary to the Native Americans and frontier people. Rev. McCoy began First Baptist Church (now Fort Wayne Baptist), a church that hosts the Burmese Christian Fellowship and the Karen Baptist Church and counts several Burmese among its membership. The work begun by Rev. Judson still produces fruit.

The October 12 city-wide celebration will include a brief history of Judson’s work in Burma, vignettes of the different missionary eras, prayers and hymns of thanksgiving in English, Burmese and Karen languages and a challenge for the third century of continuing the work begun by Adoniram Judson. A light lunch will be served following the celebratory service.

This celebration of 200 years of Christianity in Burma (Myanmar) is sponsored by the Mission Committee of Fort Wayne Baptist Church, the Burmese Christian Fellowship, the Karen Baptist Church and the Lutheran L.A.M.B.
