Participants from local churches and agencies invite the public to focus on the true meaning of Christmas for the 62nd Christ Child Festival, Dec. 6-8 at a new venue - the University of Saint Francis Performing Arts Center, 431 W. Berry St., Fort Wayne.
With the goal of “keeping Christ in Christmas,” the organization works to foster the Christmas spirit of generosity year-round. To that end, the venue, new this year, will be filled with exhibits following the theme “Sharing the Love of Christ Through…”
This year's festival has something for all ages in a family friendly environment, including a beautiful children's area with quality crafts to take home and possibly use for gifting. Activities include a children’s area with crafts, games, balloon hats and a scavenger hunt to collect Bible story cards. A Living Nativity will be presented by theatre company all for One productions.
One of the new aspects of the 2013 festival that may appeal to youth and adults is the photo contest with the theme “Witnessing the Glory of God,” running from Oct. 1 to Nov. 15, 2013. The top 10 photos will be on display at the festival. First prize is a two-night stay at the Oakwood Resort in a room overlooking beautiful Lake Wawasee and a $50 food allowance ($450 total value). There is no fee to enter. For rules and entry form, visit fwchristchildfestival.org/photo-contest.
There is no admission fee to the festival, but guests are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for the Associated Churches Food Bank. Festival hours are 6-9 p.m. on December 6, noon to 8 pm Dec. 7 and noon to 5 pm Dec. 8.
