Event Description
On January 19, 2013 at 10:13am, the Fort Wayne community will have the amazing opportunity to take part in a day of service dedicated to a great man whose words will not soon be forgotten. Martin Luther King, Jr. dedicated his life to making a difference in this world, and his “I Have a Dream” speech was a powerful testament to his belief in freedom for all. Although his words would leave a lasting impression with some, others resisted his views—and eventually, this would cost him his life. Still, the strength of his message remains in our hearts and empowers us all to dream.
Who: Community volunteers will join the American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization that helps people prepare, prevent and respond to emergencies. Volunteers will represent Red Cross, Community Action of Northeast Indiana, the IPFW 21st Century Scholars, MLK Montessori School and others. All are invited to join in this day of service.
What: This year, our focus will be to spread preparedness material to neighborhoods prone to house fires in our community. In addition to Red Cross volunteers and AmeriCorps members in Fort Wayne, we are calling on you as members of our community to serve with us on this day of remembrance as we promote fire safety and preparedness to our fellow neighbors.
When: Saturday, January 19, from 10:13am – 1pm
Where: Volunteers will meet at 10:13 am the morning of event for snacks and words of motivation at the MLK Montessori School, 6801 S. Anthony Blvd, Fort Wayne, IN 46816
Why: Home fires are Northeast Indiana’s most prevalent disaster threat. Last year, the Northeast Indiana chapter responded to 116 residential fires, assisting 506 local residents.
RSVP: Please RSVP to Jamie Black at jamie.black@redcross.org; 260.484.9336 x 225.
