Event Description
"Pathways to a Healthy Garden" will be the theme of the Master Gardener seminars offered at the 2013 Fort Wayne Home and Garden Show held at the Memorial Coliseum from February 28 - March 3.
Purdue Master Gardeners and other area experts will offer their tips and tricks regarding gardening basics at the Master Gardener Stage each day at the show. Learn about composting, vegetable gardening, growing flowers, tree care and selection, growing fruit trees, sustainable landscapes, and canning and preserving food.
HGTV's network star Erica Glasener will be offering seminars also at the stage. In addition, Purdue Master Gardeners will also be available to answer garden questions at their Purdue booth located in the garden hall. Purchase seeds of unusual flowers and vegetables at the booth and help support the Master Gardener volunteer program! Spring Lawn / Landscaping/ Water Quality Seminar offered at Extension Office
A Spring Landscape / Lawn Seminar with an Emphasis on Water Quality will be held at the Allen County Extension office- 4001 Crescent Ave., Fort Wayne Indiana (on the IPFW campus) on February 22, 2013 from 8:30 AM 12:15 PM. This event, sponsored by the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service, the Allen County Partnership for Water Quality Water, and the Allen County SWCD / NRCS is primarily for members of the Landscape turf industry; but is also available to the general public with an interest in Water Quality issues. Subjects included in the seminar are :
A Soil / Water Perspective-Matt Jones, Allen County Partnership for Water Quality Water
Sustainable Lawns and Nutrient-Runoff Control - LEED/LID Standards for Landscaping - Kara Salazar, Purdue Sustainable Communities Extension Specialist and Laura Bailey, New Leaf LLC Consultant, and Landscaping from an Agricultural Perspective-Mike Werling, Werling Farms Producer. There is a fee to attend the seminar. Registration forms can be obtained by contacting the Allen County Extension office at 260-481-6826 (option 3). Space is limited and registration forms must be submitted by February 13, 2013.
Gardening Seminars offered at area Library Branches
Purdue Horticulture Extension Educator Ricky Kemery will present several Horticulture on the Road seminars at several library branches this spring. The seminars will focus on tree planting, care, and selection, basic lawn care, and general gardening including the sustainable vegetable garden. Ricky writes bi-weekly feature articles for the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, and also has appeared on numerous radio programs and joins Rick Wolfe s House Calls radio program on WOWO during the summer months.

Fruit Tree Workshop
Purdue Horticulture Extension Educator Ricky Kemery will present a workshop on Growing and Caring for Fruit Trees at the Allen County Extension office on Saturday April 27 at 10:30 AM.
The workshop will focus on the selection and care of apples, peaches, pears and plum trees.
Ricky writes bi-weekly feature articles for the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, and also has appeared on numerous radio programs and joins Rick Wolfe s House Calls radio program on WOWO during the summer months.
