Event Description
Little River Wetlands Project, a local nature organization protecting more than 1,000 acres of natural and restored wetlands near Fort Wayne, offers interesting and informative nature events this spring. All are free and open to the community.
Wildflower Walk
Arrowhead Prairie
Saturday, May 4, 9 to 10:30 a.m, “Wildflower Walk.” Meet at
Arrowhead Prairie, 8624 Aboite Road, Roanoke. Master Gardener Laura Stine will lead us through the preserve’s native plant garden and along its trails to see wildflowers in bloom. She will also explain why native wildflowers and grasses areimportant and which ones you might like to grow at home.

Thursday, May 9, 8 to 10 a.m. “Ephemeral Pools.” Light breakfast and nature presentation for nature lovers 50+ at Coventry Meadows Senior Community on W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne. Master Naturalist Ronnie Greenberg will discuss the many plants and animals that depend upon these important pools at LRWP preserves that are wet only part of the year.

Family Fun Hike: Pond Life
Eagle Marsh
Saturday, May 11, 9 to 10:30 a.m, “Family Fun Hike: Pond Life.” Families meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6301 Engle Road, Fort Wayne for an interactive session among tanks of insects and tadpoles to learn about the life cycle of frogs, toads and insects that start their lives in our ephemeral pools. Then we’ll all use dip nets and scoopers to pull up what swims, wiggles, and hops in our water before hiking to learn how the marsh ecosystem provides insects and amphibians a safe place to live, eat, and reproduce. Wednesday, May 15, 9 to 10 a.m. “Short Hikes for Short Legs: Pond Life.” For children ages 3 to 5 and a responsible adult. Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6301 Engle Road, Fort Wayne to learn about swimmers, wigglers, and things that go hop in the water. We’ll start with an interactive activity, do some pond dipping to discover what lives in the water, then take a short hike to learn where pond creatures live when they’re on dry land.
