Event Description

March 29, 2011 Updated Oct 17, 2011 at 10:32 AM EDT

Senior citizens are invited for their own visit time, Senior Day in the Castle, when restored Brookside on the University of Saint Francis campus opens again for Christmas in the Castle 2011.

Senior Day in the Castle will run from 2-5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9. Admission for the day will be $3 instead of the usual $5. Senior groups wishing to participate in this special day can make reservations by calling Sister Gayle Rusbasan, OSF at 260-399-770, ext. 6706.

Rooms on all three floors of the mansion will be decked out in holiday splendor by decorators from the Fort Wayne community. This year, Armstrong Flowers, A Party Apart, Young’s Flowers and Gifts, Cottage Flowers, NISCO Christmas Paradise, Moring’s, Aesthetic Plants and Sandpoint Interiors will lend their expertise to the décor.

In addition, USF’s entry in the Fort Wayne Festival of Trees, a 10-foot tree with a Christmas crèche theme, will return to the mansion for this event. The tree ties the tradition of the crèche and the re-creation of Christ’s nativity to USF’s patron saint, St. Francis of Assisi, who originated it in the 13th century.

Public hours for Christmas in the Castle 2011 are noon-6 p.m. Dec. 3 and 4 and Dec. 10 and 11. Admission is $5 per person or $20 for a family of up to six people. For more information, visit www.sf.edu.
