When a tragic car accident took the life of 16-year-old Bluffton native Jennifer R. O’Reilly in 2004, her parents, Tim and Rhonda O’Reilly, turned their grief into action by helping families in the community in honor of their daughter. They called this project Karing for Kids.

In 2008, a committee was formed to further expand the service that was provided through Karing for Kids, which operates various projects the O’Reillys started, such as Jennifer’s Closet, which provides clothing items to families in need; the School Supply Project, which assists families during back-to -school time with the Backpack Project, and the Angel Tree Project, which provides essential items as Christmas gifts to area children.

On July 13th, Markle Health and Rehabilitation, a Senior Health and Memory Care facility operated by American Senior Communities and other American Senior Communities locations and community groups will help sponsor the 1st annual Karing for Kids Golf Outing at Lafontaine Golf Club in Huntington to raise money for the organization.

Hole sponsors and donors are being recruited now and also include Heritage Park, Bethlehem Woods, Glenbrook Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing, Summit City Nursing and Rehabilitation, Betz Nursing Home, and Coventry Meadows, all American Senior Communities locations in the Greater Fort Wayne area. Hole sponsorship is $100. Donors are also being sought to provide door prizes. Golfers can support the organization by paying $50 for singles and $200 for team (four-person teams) entries. Entry deadline is July 10. More information may be obtained by calling 260-758-2418, or emailing Karen.humbarger@yahoo.com.
