As part of Lutheran Life Villages’ ongoing Guest Speaker Series, Thomas A Kintanar, M.D., will present “Emergencies for Older Adults: Facts, Myths, and Tips to Save Your Life” on Thursday, June 21, at 4 p.m. in the Heritage Room on the Lutheran Life Villages Fort Wayne campus, 6723 South Anthony Boulevard.

“Emergencies for Older Adults” is designed to help older adults recognize when a condition is a medical emergency, or might just require first aid, and what to do in either case. Lutheran Life Villages is hosting this free seminar to provide older adults with knowledge that can help improve the quality of their lives, and perhaps save their lives or the lives of others.

“This program is especially helpful for older adults who live alone,” say Dr. Kintanar. “Many times they don’t want to call a family member or call 911 when they should. Waiting five or 10 minutes could mean the difference between life, death, or permanent physical damage.”

During this program you’ll learn:

• What is a medical emergency.

• How to determine if you should go to the hospital, doctor, or an urgent-care center.

• First-aid techniques you should know.

• What first-aid items to keep at home.

• Common first-aid myths.

Light refreshments will be offered immediately following the presentation. RSVP by Thursday, June 14, to (260) 447-1591, ext. 2138.

Thomas A. Kintanar, M.D., FAAFP, ABFM, is in private practice associated with Lutheran Medical Group in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is also a clinical associate professor of medicine at Indiana University. He is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is an AAFP Fellow, an earned degree awarded to family physicians for distinguished service and continuing medical education. He also serves as medical director at Lutheran Life Villages and on the boards of several medical organizations local and national.

Presented throughout the year, the Lutheran Life Villages Guest Speaker Series addresses a variety of topics important to older adults. Lutheran Life Villages provides a continuum of care that enables people to meet new challenges as they transition through life. Whether you’re looking for independent living, assisted living, or skilled nursing, Lutheran Life Villages has a retirement-living option to meet your needs.
