Georgetown Square’s Farmer’s Market will open for the season on Thursday, June the 9th, from 4-7pm in front of the theater building near the corner of State Blvd. and Maplecrest. The market began last summer and was an instant success. “The market is so much more than produce,” commented Maureen Partee of the Georgetown Office, “There are fresh baked goods, hand made jewelry, pottery, flowers, local honey, unique gift ideas, clothing and accessories. The northeast area residents really embraced the market last year and we hope to make it bigger and better this year.”
On the second Thursday of each month there will be the Rolling Classic Car Club Cruise-In in conjunction with the market on Thursdays. Georgetown Square management hopes this will add to the energy and interest of the market.
Farmer’s Markets have grown substantially over the past decade as people are more aware of the benefits of fresh fruits and vegetables. Shoppers also find it enjoyable to talk to the business owners that hand crafted their art, grew their produce or baked their own treats.
The Fort Wayne Health Department defines a Farmers Market as a common facility where two or more farmers or growers gather on a regular recurring basis to sell a variety of fruits, vegetables and other farm products directly to consumers.
The market will be open every Thursday until September 15th. This will give neighbors an opportunity to support local farmers, pick up some baked goods and check out some unique art. Busy moms and working families can swing by on their way home at dinner time.
Vendors interested in being a part of the Georgetown Farmer’s Market can contact the Georgetown Square Office 260-749-0461 for more information.
