Organizers of this year's annual May Fest in Fort Wayne have chosen to donate the proceeds of the event to Black Pine Animal Sanctuary, a refuge to 98 displaced, captive-raised exotic animals, as the beneficiary of proceeds this year.
May Fest will take place Sunday, May 5 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Calhoun Street Soups Salads and Spirits at 1915 South Calhoun Street in Fort Wayne. Live music, an art show and sale, and a silent auction will be among the activities to be enjoyed throughout the afternoon, with proceeds to benefit the big cats, primates, reptiles, bears, birds, and other former "pets" and retired performers living out the rest of their lives at Black Pine, a 501c3 non-profit organization located in nearby Albion, Indiana, about 40 miles northwest of Fort Wayne.
Local musical artists scheduled to perform include Distractions, Honey Badger, David Todoran, and Little Logan and the Insta-Gators. Many popular local fine artists will also have a variety of paintings, hand-crafted wares, decorative pieces, jewelry, and more for sale, with a portion, or in some cases all proceeds being donated to Black Pine. A silent auction will also feature many more items for purchase to benefit the animals.
The event is open to all ages. A $10 cover charge will apply, and a cash bar and menu offerings will be available. For more information, or to view a virtual gallery of art pieces featured, visit Black Pine's website at www.blackpine.org. Inquiries may also be made by phone to 260-636-7383. Black Pine is a 501c3 non-profit organization.
