Event Description

August 12, 2013 Updated Aug 12, 2013 at 1:20 PM EDT

When Black Pine Animal Park relocated and began rebuilding the animal refuge in 2006, patrons, citizens, business owners and other supporters were given the opportunity to purchase an engraved brick paver to be placed at the new site. Funds from the sale of bricks helped make Black Pine's Relocation Project a success. The last original animal resident's habitat was finished in early 2012 when Tarzan's outdoor chimpanzee play yard was completed.

The massive rebuilding project is done, but Black Pine Animal "Sanctuary" is now offering, in response to popular demand, one more chance to be a part of history. Engraved brick pavers are on sale now, for a limited time, to be included in a permanent walkway installation at the sanctuary's picnic pavilion near the main visitor entrance. The new installation will also incorporate pavers purchased during the Relocation Project in 2006 and 2007 that are currently on display, but not permanently installed.

Bricks can be purchased as gifts, in memory of loved family, friends or pets, to commemorate birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, or retirement. Many reflect a passion for the animals and mission, with and without names of donors. Businesses may add bricks to the walkway as a form of advertisement, and to express their charitable support of the non-profit mission. Black Pine was recognized in 2012 as one of Indiana's Top 10 "Summer Gotta Do's", and has been named a Better Business Bureau Accredited Charity three years running. Most recently, Black Pine was awarded a Top-Rated 2013 Charity by Great Nonprofits, an award made possible by positive patron, volunteer, professional, peer, and donor testimonials. More than 13,000 visitors visit the site annually, with attendance numbers only expected to increase in coming years.

Bricks are available in two sizes. A four inch by eight inch "standard" size brick includes up to three lines of text, with up to 20 characters per line, for $50.00. An eight inch by eight inch square brick includes up to eight lines of text at 20 characters per line for $100.00. A portion of the cost of each brick is tax deductible and donation receipts will be issued prior to year end for tax purposes. Proceeds of brick sales will be used to cover the costs of the permanent installation and accompanying landscaping to be completed, which will put the finishing touches on this central area of the sanctuary enjoyed by so many visitors.

Brick orders may be placed securely online via Black Pine's website at www.blackpine.org, with payment by any major credit card processed by PayPal (no PayPal account is required). An order form may also be downloaded from the website and mailed with payment. Orders will also be accepted in person when Black Pine is open to the public, weekdays between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. through September 2, 2013, and weekends between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. through the end of October. Call 260-636-7383 for more information or to order by phone.

Bricks will be available for purchase until enough funds have been raised to complete the installation, which Black Pine hopes to get underway later this year.
