Who would have thought the humble childhood hula hoop would become the latest fitness craze? Hula hooping and hula dance are fun and exciting forms of exercise that strengthen the core, boost cardiovascular endurance, speed weight loss, sculpt thighs, buttocks and arms, develop balance and coordination, enhance flexibility and are a low impact workout.
Mikila Cook will begin with basic hula hooping and progress to intermediate hula dance, flowing gracefully between tricks. Each class will focus on awareness of a specific part of the body and coordinating tricks. Build core strength and cardio fitness as you learn how to spin an adult-sized hula hoop on your body and in your hands. Whether you’re after a fun workout, a new skill to show off to friends, a way to de-stress, or something extra to add to your dance routine, hooping has got something for everyone.
The class is suitable for all ages, no previous experience required. Hula hoops will be available to use, purchase or order. Ages 8-adult. Fee: $40/public; $34/Conservatory member or volunteer. Registration deadline: September 5. Min. 10. Max. 13.
Held at the Botanical Conservatory, 1100 S. Calhoun St. To register, call the Park Department at (260) 427-6000.
