Event Description
Next weekend, area residents will step toward a world free of multiple sclerosis (MS) by participating in Walk MS: Northeast 2012, which will begin with check-in at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19 at the East Pavilion at Headwaters Park in Fort Wayne. The walk will begin at 9:00 a.m.
Walk MS: Northeast 2012 is one of eight Walk MS events throughout the state hosted by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society – Indiana State Chapter to generate funds to drive research for a cure and raise awareness about MS. More importantly, Walk MS serves as a rallying point for thousands of family, friends, colleagues, neighbors and loved ones to show their support for those living with the challenges of MS. A festival environment awaits the walkers as they cross the finish line, celebrating their vision of a world free of multiple sclerosis. Six walks are held in various locations during the months of April and May, and two events are held in September.
There is no cost to participate in Walk MS, although walkers are encouraged to raise funds in support of the Society. This year’s event will feature a one-mile and a three-mile route, both of which begin and end in Headwaters Park in Fort Wayne. Walk MS: Northeast 2011 included over 560 participants who raised nearly $64,000.
To register for Walk MS: Northeast or to volunteer, call 1-800-FIGHT-MS (344-4867), option 2 or visit www.walkMSindiana.org. On-site registration is also available the day of the event.
