Community Connections, the Community Development division of Pathfinder Services, will host a workshop series focused on overall financial wellness with an emphasis on building and improving credit scores. Classes begin February 19 in Huntington and February 26 in Fort Wayne. Each workshop series consists of five different 2½ hour sessions, and are open to anyone in the community interested in improving their financial situation.

The Huntington workshop series will take place from 5:30 - 8:30 P.M. on Feb 19, 26, March 5, 12 and 19 at Pathfinder Community Connections located at 2824 Theater Avenue in Huntington.

The Fort Wayne workshops will take place from 5:30 - 8:30 P.M. Feb 26, March 5, 12, 19 & 26. Community Connections is located at The Summit at 1005 W. Rudisill Blvd., Suite 301, Fort Wayne.

All courses are taught by Pathfinder Community Connections certified Home Buyer Counselors with a variety of guest speakers. A complimentary light meal will be served. The course sessions are presented as follows:

Week 1 - Financial Planning in Easy Steps
Week 2 - Set and Achieve Financial Goals to Move into Home Ownership
Week 3 - Being a Responsible Consumer
Week 4 - Build Credit and Explore Lender Expectations
Week 5 - Focus on the Future.

Upon successful completion of all five workshops sessions, participants may qualify to receive up to $300 from Pathfinder Community Connections to open a matched savings account at a local financial institution. Participants may also be eligible to receive up to a $300 loan with a local bank regardless of credit history.

“We are excited to continue offering the Financial Fitness program to educate the communities we serve on the importance of improving credit and increasing financial stability this year and beyond,” stated Natalie Fisher, Homeownership Education Coordinator for Pathfinder Community Connections. “People who participate in our workshops have found ways to improve their credit scores and continue along the path towards financial fitness. This is the first step to becoming successful homeowners and we are happy to help families through the process,” Fisher concluded.
