Mandy Barnett Performance
Mandy Barnett will be performing Saturday, November 1st in Hall-Moser Theatre at Arts Place located at 131 East Walnut Street, Portland, IN 47371. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. In advance the cost for adults is $20 and $10 for students. At the door, tickets are $23 for adults and $11.50 for students. Tickets are available at the box office, by phone at 260-726-4809, or online at www.artsland.org. Group rates are available and may be arranged by calling or visiting the box office.
Barnett, a native of Crossville, Tennessee, started singing at five years-old and has been singing since. As a teenager, Mandy starred as country music legend Patsy Cline in the stage show Always…Patsy Cline. The performances sold out nightly and received reviews from across the country.
The Portland Center of Arts Place is currently accepting registrations for a variety of fall and winter art classes. Session 1 begins September 8th, session 2 begins November 3rd, session 3 begins January 12th, and session 4 begins March 30th. Each session is 6 weeks. Hand building clay with Mary Boetgger is offered all sessions on Wednesdays from 5:00-7:00 p.m. The cost is $95. Ages 13 and up and all skill levels are welcome. This course will teach the 3 basic hand building techniques, coil, pinch, and slab. Learn how to make boxes, pots, plates, and more.
Wheel throwing with Mary Boetgger is offered all sessions on Mondays from 5:00-7:00p.m. The cost is $95. Ages 13 and up are welcome. This class is for beginning to intermediate students. Basic techniques such as learning how to center clay and make cylinders will be taught while creating bowls, plates, mugs, vases, and lidded containers. Various glazing techniques will also be explored.
Toddler Art Class with Ashley Austerman is offered during sessions 1 and 3 on Thursdays from 4:30-5:00p.m. The cost is $25. Pre-k to 5 years old are welcome. This class is designed for toddlers and their parents or grandparents. Students will explore different mediums while developing their skills and talents.
Teen clay sculpture with Ashley Austerman is offered during sessions 1 and 3 on Thursdays from 5:30-7:00p.m. The cost is $50. Ages 12-18 with a limit of 8 per class are welcome. Learn how to create clay sculptures using slab technique. Students will also learn how to texture and glaze.
Teen drawing and painting with Ashley Austerman is offered during sessions 2 and 4 on Mondays from 5:30-7:00 p.m. The cost is $50. Ages 12-18 are welcome. Learn the basics of drawing such as how to draw from life while capturing light and shade. Students will also learn basic painting and coloring techniques.
Oil painting with Steve McClung is offered all sessions on Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The cost is $90. Students will learn how to create realistic landscapes by learning and utilizing different brush stroke techniques, careful color mixing, and how to create depth.
Silk painting with Barbie Stump is offered during session 2 on Mondays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The cost is $90. Silk painting is the process of applying a dye or thinned paint to silk. Students may draw their own design or choose from one provided.
Watercolor with Barbie Stump is offered during session 1 on Mondays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The cost is $90. In this class students will learn various techniques including layering and glazing color.
Egg tempura with Barbie Stump is offered during session 4 on Mondays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The cost is $95. This class will introduce the basics like learning how to develop an under drawing, mixing pigments into pastes, adding egg yolk to temper the paste, and then applying layering and glazing techniques.
Wine basket weaving with Wilma Rigby will be offered on September 24th and 26th. The cost is $50. Learn how to weave a wine basket in this two day workshop. This is a class for beginner weavers.
Card making with Heidi Bouse is a 2 hour class offered on October 15th and April 8th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The cost is $5 per 3 cards created. Students use scrapbooking and paper craft techniques to make winter holiday or birthday cards.
Balloon art with Christina Williamson is offered on October 3rd and December 5th from 4:00-5:00 p.m. The cost is $10. Students will learn the art of balloon twisting.
