SAVE THE MALES!

Raising awareness of prostate cancer through a golf outing, local sportscaster Kent Hormann and Cynthia Cornwell, have scheduled the 4th annual Blue Ball Open for Friday, August 9th at Cedar Creek Golf Club, with a 1pm shotgun start.

Last year, over $24,000 was raised. 100% of the proceeds went to Parkview Prostate Cancer Research and, Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana for prostate cancer awareness.

Every year, approximately 8,000 cases of cancer of the prostate are diagnosed at an advanced stage and roughly 32,000 men are projected to die from the disease in the United States this year. Despite these statistics, many people think prostate cancer is less dangerous than other cancers. In fact, cancer of the prostate is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among men, apart from lung cancer.

1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, compared to 1 in 8 women who will face breast cancer.

“In one short year, I have gone from prostate cancer patient to prostate cancer survivor. I hope that the annual Blue Ball Open can help men have the same success that I have had dealing with this disease,” Co-Chair Kent states.

Everyone has a guy in their life that means a lot to them, whether it is a dad, brother, husband, cousin, best friend…it’s for them too.

During the Blue Ball golf outing participants can learn more about the disease and how to fight it.

Parkview Urologist Donald Urban, MD says, “The good news about prostate cancer screening is that right now the entry point or first step to knowing that you are healthy, is a simple blood test. This is a responsible, proactive move for all men.”

Information and coupons for free screenings will be given out the day of the Blue Ball Open.

Each player will receive a couple of blue balls, as well as a golf towel and cap. The cost is $75/player or $300/team, which includes 18-holes of golf with cart, beverages all day, a hog roast, and Live Auction items to bid on.

Enjoy a great day of golf for a good cause.

The Blue Ball Golf Open is still accepting $100 hole sponsorships, donations and teams.
