Location: McMahon Tires, 4201 Coldwater Rd.
The American Heart Association’s area Go Red For Women group and McMahon Tires have teamed up to bring women health and car information on Saturday, October 6 from 9am - noon. “Women Under Pressure” offers women the opportunity to learn how to check their tire pressure; keep their cars running tip-top AND check on their blood pressure and learn how to keep themselves in tip-top shape.
The project will offer health information, massages and tire/auto training all morning. Nurses from IPFW and students will be available to share health information and take blood pressures. Volunteers from the Go Red Passion Committee and BetterU teams will be sharing information on Women’s heart & stroke health and related programs.
As a woman grows older, her chance of having high blood pressure becomes greater than a man's. She may have had normal blood pressure most of your life, but after menopause, the chances of developing High Blood Pressure increase considerably.
Uncontrolled high blood pressure can injure or kill you. It's sometimes called "the silent killer" because it has no symptoms, so you may not be aware that it's damaging your arteries, heart and other organs. Possible health consequences that can happen over time when high blood pressure is left untreated include: damage to the heart and coronary arteries, including heart attac; heart disease; congestive heart failure; aortic dissection and atherosclerosis; kidney damage; vision loss; memory loss and peripheral artery disease
Women who stop by during the event will receive their own tire pressure gauges, be shown how to read tire pressure, and learn how to keep their cars running in tip-top condition.
‘Women Under Pressure’ is our way of raising awareness among women about the important of having their blood pressure checked regularly,” says Kim McMahon, president of McMahon Tire & Car Care. “At the same time, we’ll help them better understand how their vehicles work."
“Women are always under pressure,” McMahon adds. “We need to take great care of ourselves—and the same goes for our cars.”
The first 100 women who attend will be given goody bags filled with auto information, health information, perfume samples and coupons to shop at Macy’s later that day. Bridgestone Tires has donated a set of tires to one of the event’s participants. Anyone who attends the event will have the opportunity to sign up for the tire give away until noon on October 6th. The McMahon Tire location for this event is on the Glenbook Mall campus at 4201 Coldwater Rd.
