The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Fort Wayne residents and individuals and companies in the surrounding counties to unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®. The 2013 Walk will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Headwaters Park, located at 333 South Clinton Street. Participants can now register by visiting alz.org/Indiana.
Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is more than a walk. It is an experience for all participants to learn about Alzheimer's disease and how to get involved with this critical cause, from advocacy opportunities, the latest in Alzheimer’s research and clinical trial enrollment to support programs and services.
Last year the Fort Wayne walk saw a 41% increase in participants with over 1,000 walkers and a 9% increase in revenue raising more than $180,000. This year the Alzheimer’s Association is hoping to exceed the 2012 totals and have more participants involved.
“There has never been a greater need for Indiana residents to join in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease by participating in Walk to End Alzheimer’s,” Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter Executive Director, Heather Hershberger said.
The Alzheimer’s Association would like to thank our 2012 major sponsor Angel Corps.
“Every year we look forward to doing community outreach with the Walk,” Angel Corps Team Captain Jeri Westmorland said. “Last year was the second year in a row we passed our team goal. We are already planning for a successful 2013 Walk to End Alzheimer’s.”
The Alzheimer’s Association would also like to thank our statewide sponsors; American Senior Communities, Eli Lilly and Company and Kittle’s Furniture, for helping us reach our 2012 statewide goal of $1.4 million.
Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and is now the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death. As baby boomers age, the number of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease will rapidly escalate. More than 5 million Americans currently live with Alzheimer’s.
