Penny French-Deal grew up on a farm in Wabash County, Indiana. It was life on the farm that began a life-long journey to capture the essence of her surroundings. She holds a degree in Interior Design from Indiana University and studied at the Fort Wayne Art Institute. She continues her art education by studying with nationally known artists, reading about different art techniques and visiting art museums. Besides traveling in the United States, she has also traveled throughout Europe for inspiration.
Working primarily in oils, she is known for her contemporary impressionistic style using warm, vibrant colors. Driven by passion and challenge, she explores a variety of subject matter to interpret the energy, continuity and integrity of shapes, value, color and composition and then translates those components to canvas with her unique style.
Penny has had the honor of winning numerous awards, most recently being juried into the International Painting and Mixed Media Competition in Sofia, Bulgaria. She was selected for the 2008 Celebrating Hoosier Women Artists award sponsored by Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman. Other accomplishments include her solo show at the Hilbert Circle Theatre for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, inclusion in the Hoosier Salon Annual Exhibits as well as other juried shows and solo shows. In 2009 she was chosen as a muralist for the TV production, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Bunker Hill, Indiana. Her memberships include: Indiana Artists Club, Inc., the Hoosier Salon, American Women Artists, Indiana Plein Air Painters Association, and Indiana Heritage Artists. She has exhibited nationally and internationally and her paintings can be found in private, corporate, museum and university collections throughout the United States and Europe. Her studio is at her home in North Manchester, Indiana. She is the exclusive artist in The Gallery at Joseph Decuis, Roanoke, Indiana.
