January Classical Chamber Performances
Coming to the Portland Center of Arts Place is a series of classical chamber performances to include the following:
Violinist, Roxana Pavel, pianist Monica Pavel Kissinger and violist Elias Goldstein will be performing a free concert on Sunday, January 12th, 2014 at 2 p.m. The Pavel sisters and Elias Goldstein all have extensive backgrounds in music and have achieved multiple awards, nationally and internationally. Both Roxana Pavel and her husband Elias Goldstein hold a Doctorate Degree in Musical Arts while Monica Pavel Kissinger has a Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting and Piano Performance and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Choral Conducting at Ball State University.
Harpist Jaclyn Wappel will perform Sunday, January 19th, 2014 at 2 p.m. Jaclyn, an avid harp performer is the principal harpist with the Muncie Symphony Orchestra. She has not only performed in the States, but Switzerland, England, Austria, Luxembourg and Spain as well. Jaclyn is pursuing a Doctorate of Arts Degree at Ball State University with plans to graduate in May 2014. Admission to the concert is free.
MusicWorks Honors Recital
Arts Place will hold a MusicWorks Honors Recital on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. The recital will be held in Hall-Moser Theatre at Arts Place, Portland Center, located at 131 East Walnut Street in Portland, Indiana. The event is open to the public and admission is free. The recital will include performances by several of the advanced MusicWorks students, many of whom are preparing for the Indiana State School Music Association solo and ensemble contests.
The Muncie Symphony Chamber Orchestra will be performing on January 31st, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. This will be the second concert of the Orchestra’s Music Without Borders Series titled “Across American Borders”. The program will feature an all-”American” program, including standard works of the orchestral repertoire, an Indiana premier by a local composer with an international jazz violinist, and a finale by a composer south of the border. The Muncie Symphony Chamber Orchestra performance is being sponsored by the Bank of Geneva. Adult tickets: $18 in advance; $20 day of show. Student tickets: $9 advance; $10 day of show.
