Event Description
Jorgensen Family YMCA is set to host the 2nd Annual Diabetes Awareness Day on Saturday, October 15 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. This free event is open to the community and geared for all ages. Jorgensen Y will set the scene for a variety of exhibitors and expert speakers from local hospitals, the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program and more, providing opportunities to learn about the prevention and treatment of diabetes. Mullen Immunization Clinic will be on hand to provide flu shots, and free blood glucose screenings will be provided by Parkview Hospital.
The day will also feature the Diabetes Awareness Day 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run, sponsored by Sam’s Club, kicking off at 9 a.m. at Summit Middle School. Registration is ongoing at the Jorgensen Family YMCA.
“With the growing trend of diabetes in this county it is important for us to provide educational opportunities that will draw awareness within our community on the growing needs of how diabetes affects everyone,” said Brian West, Senior Program Director at the Jorgensen Family YMCA.
This event is free and open to all members of the community. For more information, contact Brian West, Senior Program Director, at (260) 755-4821, or visit the Jorgensen Family YMCA page of the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne website at fwymca.org.
