ACRES offers a wide variety of programs designed to provide greater awareness and enjoyment of natural areas. ACRES events and programs are open to the public - you do not have to be an ACRES member to participate. All programs are offered free of charge unless otherwise noted in the description. Choose an upcoming event and join in the fun!

Timberdoodle Sky Dance

Join Wildwood caretakers, Jennifer and Casey, every evening at dusk during the first week of April as we take our camp chairs out to the Lost Acres and await the “peent” of the American Woodcock.

25th Annual Adopt-A-Tree

Enjoy a variety of events for children and adults: make a bluebird house or suet feeder, look at pond water under a microscope, and adopt a northern American plum, black gum, chestnut oak and white pine. Entertainment will be fiddle and dulcimer music and caricature drawings.

Do most trails end before your desire to stop walking does? This trip may be just what you are looking for. We will begin hiking within Kokiwanee and extend the trip into the neighboring Salamonie State Forest before returning to Kokiwanee. You can choose to take the 5-mile trip or continue on for a 10-mile adventure. Come prepared to carry all the food, drink and any other supplies you will need.

Join forces with the Tippecanoe Audubon Society for their 38th year participating in this bird count. The group will cover all of Kosciusko County to document the spring migration. We invite ACRES members to visit Kosciusko County Nature Preserves and document your species there. Typically, our group observes over 125 species in this count. Join ACRES for docent-led hiking tours through Blue Cast
Springs. Enjoy vistas of the Maumee River and explore the
ravines that run through the upland forest to feed the river.
Blue Cast is the site of a natural spring once thought to
have healthful properties. Guided hikes begin at 10, 10:30,
11 and 11:30 or you may explore on your own. No registration

Dr. Paul Rothrock has studied sedges and other plants at Fogwell Forest and Wildwood Nature Preserves. He found the rare plant Carex seorsa and a distinct species, Carex echinaodes. Dr. Rothrock will lead a hike at Wildwood and teach us how to identify the
different sedges that are sometimes easily overlooked but provide great and diverse
value to the natural landscape.

Prepare to be astonished by Indiana Young Birders Club
Youth Advisor and 2013 Indiana Young Birder of the Year,
Alex Forsythe. She will share her knowledge and contagious
enthusiasm about birds. Alex will present some of the
materials that she has created to aid in promoting bird
conservation to children. We will take a hike through
Wildwood and document all the species we see and hear.
Crafts and snacks to follow the hike. Bring binoculars, if you
have them. If you don’t have ’nocs, a few pairs will be available.
