Race Unity Day Celebration with The Bahá'í Community of Fort Wayne and It Is Well With My Soul of Ball State University

Cross-Cultural Families, Past, Present, and Future

Race Unity Day is observed worldwide by Bahá'ís and others with meetings and discussions. The day was begun in 1957 by the Bahá'í National Spiritual Assembly in the United States. The purpose of the day is to promote racial harmony and understanding. It is celebrated annually on the second Sunday in June.

David Douglas will present on the book, "Marriage Beyond Black and White: An Interracial Family Portrait." Hear this powerful story of challenge and triumph in the marriage between his white mother and black father. It is a poignant and sometimes painful look at what it was like to be an interracial couple in the United States when interracial marriage was outlawed in twenty-seven states and was regarded as anathema in the rest.

Douglas is an educator (elementary school teacher and adjunct faculty), speaker, diversity consultant, and co-author of this book (with his mother, the late Barbara Douglas). He lives in Holland, Michigan with his wife and three children.

Cost to attend: 50 cents for room setup. Lunch is available ranging in price from $6 to $10. To RSVP call Dr. Ruby Cain at 765-285-9126 or email at rcain@bsu.edu.
