Event Description
Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center, in partnership with the Fort Wayne TinCaps, will offer free health screenings including prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screens on Tuesday, Aug. 21 and Wednesday, Aug. 22. The location for the screenings will be Parkview Field in the Lincoln Financial Group Event Center.
The PSA screen is for men 40 and older and is a blood test that detects potential problems in the prostate gland by measuring the amount of PSA in a man’s blood. The test can provide early detection and improve chances for surviving prostate cancer. If detected early, before spreading outside the prostate gland, prostate cancer is treatable and curable. Confidential test results will be sent directly to each man tested and his physician.
The TinCaps will be wearing special Prostate Cancer Awareness jerseys on Aug. 21 that will be auctioned off that night to benefit prostate cancer research.
*Aug. 21 is from 6-9 p.m. for men with tickets to that evening’s TinCaps game. Additional screenings will include blood sugar, blood pressure, osteoporosis, height, weight, and BMI. Education opportunities will feature urology, sleep apnea, stroke, and cancer.
*Aug. 22 is from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. and is open to the public. Additional screenings will include skin, blood sugar, blood pressure, osteoporosis, height, weight, and BMI. Education opportunities will feature urology, senior care, stroke, and cancer.
In addition, both days will feature demos of the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System. The da Vinci robot is a less invasive surgical technology that offers smaller incisions, less pain and faster recovery for prostate patients. Surgeons from Parkview Physicians Group will be on hand to perform demonstrations, and the public is invited to test their skills by performing mock procedures with the da Vinci robot.
