Free Lunch/Free Snack at the Library
June 9 – August 1 (Monday through Friday)
Lunch: 11:45a – 12:45p, Snack: 2:45p – 3:00p
The Children’s Services department at the Main Library is once again participating in offering free summer meals for children ages 1 to 18. Lunch will be available Monday through Friday from 11:45 to 12:45. A nutritious snack will be available from 2:45 to 3:00 Monday through Friday. Free lunch & snack will be available from June 9th through August 1st. There will be no lunch or snack served on July 4th.

Storytime for Preschools, Daycares and Other Groups

40 Developmental Assets

Are you concerned about your child becoming involved in “risky” behaviors, such as alcohol and drug abuse, sexual activity, and violence? Would you like your child to grow up to be a healthy, caring, responsible adult? Come and learn about the 40 DEVELOPMENTAL ASSETS, building blocks of healthy youth development. More is better! The more ASSETS young people have, the more likely they are to engage in positive behaviors and less likely to engage in “risky” behaviors. You can build ASSETS in your kids! This is a cooperative program with Great Kids Make Great Communities and is supported by funds from the Foellinger Foundation. Let’s Watch a Movie

Toddler & Preschool Drive-In Movie

It's a drive-in movie for toddlers and preschoolers! Start with a cardboard box and create & decorate your own car to "drive" to the drive-in movie. All supplies will be provided.

Sink or Float?

Are you ready for some sopping wet experiments? Drop by the library to see what crazy things will sink and what crazy things will float! This dripping, drenched, and completely soaked event will be lots of fun!

Stuffed Animal Sleepover at the Library
August 1 – 5:00p
Your stuffed animals are invited to a sleepover at the library! Dress in your PJs and bring your stuffed friends to the Main Library for a special bedtime storytime. After stories, you'll tuck in your stuffed friends and wish them “good night”; you’ll go home, your stuffed friends will stay overnight. Come back on Saturday, August 2nd to pick up your stuffed friends anytime during library hours. All stuffed participants will bring home a photo-memory book of their overnight adventures.

Children’s Chess Tournament

Children (preschool through those entering Grade 5) are invited to register to play in this all-day, unrated, "just for fun" Chess tournament. Pre-registration - by Tuesday, July 22nd - is requested of all players. Registration forms will be available at all agencies by May 15th. Say Yes to No: Teaching Kids Self-Discipline

Research indicates a strong link between self-discipline and success in life. But what does self-discipline look like and how do we teach it? Based on the book “No: Why Kids of All Ages Need to Hear It and Ways Parents Can Say It,” this class will address setting boundaries and expectations for children and using “NO” to build self-discipline. This is a cooperative program with Great Kids Make Great Communities and is supported by funds from the Foellinger Foundation. Fort Wayne Youtheatre: Stories Around the World

Fort Wayne Youtheatre's STORYBOOK THEATRE presents “Stories From Around the World” Take a trip around the world with delightful stories from all over the globe! Rainbow Crow (Native America), Abiyoyo (South Africa), Strega Nona (Italy), Magic Mirror (Japan), and Rana Azul (Mexico)… No need for a passport!

Letter “Y” Play Day

Join the fun of storytime and then grab your grown-up and spend some time at the activity stations designed for parent and child play. They will be set up and available for use throughout the day. The Early Learning Center is open from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm.

Parenting in the Digital Age

Many kids spend more time on “screens” than any other activity (even sleeping!) Should parents be concerned? How does electronic media effect brain development? Is there a daily recommended allowance for screen-time? What do those TV, movie and video game ratings mean? Discussion will include all these topics and more! Abracadabra: Magic Tricks 101

Who needs Hogwarts when you have a library! We may not be fully fledged magicians, but we do have a few tricks up our sleeves! During this hour long program, children ages 6 to 11 will learn some basic magic tricks and discover the science and history behind some famous optical illusions.

Imagine That! -- The ACPL 32nd Annual Poetry Contest
September 14 – November 3
This is the 32nd annual Poetry Contest at the Library. School-age children and young adults are invited to submit one original poem on the theme "Imagine That!" All entries must be received by 6:00 pm on Monday, November 3rd. Complete rules are available at your local library.

Learning and Working with Autism
September 16 – 6:30p
A panel of local specialists from the Northeast Indiana Autism Connection will present strategies and treatment options for individuals across the spectrum and their families. Information and resources will be available both before and after the program, as well as time to connect with the presenters and other parents.

Science Explorers: Bubble-ology

Open Art Gallery Exhibit: Opening Reception
