Event Description

July 29, 2010 Updated Feb 7, 2012 at 11:50 AM EDT

Ivy Tech Community College−Northeast and Indiana University−Purdue University Fort Wayne are hosting a Military Transition Fair Feb. 24. The event will be from noon to 4 p.m. at Ivy Tech’s North Campus Student Life Center (4900 St. Joe Road).
This free event is for veterans, active military members and their families. Informational workshops will be held, covering topics including job search, interviewing, networking, problem-solving, time management and others. There will be individuals on hand to assist with answering questions, providing resources, and helping with awareness of services available. The event will provide a one-stop place for information, social agencies and colleges that are geared toward military families.

“There is a major disconnect between having services available and the utilization of those services. We are trying to bridge that gap by providing a resource event for military families to learn about the services,” said Sheila Biggs, director of career services at Ivy Tech. “This is especially important if the service member does not know what is necessary in preparing for transition into civilian life. This event is focused on both job seeking skills and personal needs of the family unit.”

Individuals in the education and business community will be at the event to help individuals gain insight in marketing skills to find employment in civilian markets. Assistance with cover letters and resumes will also be available.

"Service members, veterans and their families will find everything they are looking for to assist them as they move back to civilian life at the Military Transition Fair,” said Jo Vaughan, military student services coordinator for Ivy Tech−Northeast and IPFW. “The Office of Military Student Services looks forward to assisting those who are interested in furthering their education at either institution."
