FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - In this week's episode of Cool Science Monday, Martin Fisher from Science Central talks about the science of skyscraper buildings.
In the case of the World Trade Towers, they were about 95% air because it was a tube-in-a-tube design. The inner tube had the stairwells, mechanical equipment and elevators. The outer tube was open space where the offices were.
The towers were designed to flex, move and withstand hurricane force winds.
