FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - In this week's episode of Cool Science Monday, Martin Fisher from Science Central teaches us about how Horseshoe Crabs are not true crabs.
Horseshoe Crabs are related to crabs, which are also crustaceans, but biologists classify them in a different family. They are sometimes called “living fossils” because they have been on Earth so long. The fossil record shows them since the Ordovician, which was 450 million years ago, well before the age of dinosaurs at 225 million years ago. They live in the oceans, but will come on to land to lay eggs.
