FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - In this week's episode of Cool Science Monday, Martin Fisher from Science Central talks about pendulums.
They’re fixed at the top, and free-moving at the bottom. The bottom weight of the loose part is the bob. When a pendulum swings back-and-forth, gravity pulls the bob down. As it passes through air, friction with the air (air resistance) causes the pendulum to move slower and eventually stop swinging. I showed a way to make a pendulum with a string, a heavy washer and a light washer. By combining the dropping factor and the swinging factor, this experiment produces a surprising motion.
