FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - In this week's episode of Cool Science Monday, Martin Fisher from Science Central will talk about the science of sound and an exhibit called Pipes of Pan.
Smaller objects vibrate faster and produce a higher pitch or tone. The Pipes of Pan Exhibit is a series of 4 pipes/tubes, ranging in size from short to tall. When Martin struck the opening of each one, they vibrated and produced a sound. However, the shorter/smaller pipes vibrated faster than the larger pipes. And therefore, the smaller pipes had a higher pitch than the larger pipes, which had a deeper/lower tone.
