WATERLOO, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Student Gavin Mosier wrote, “She believes in our talent and most importantly, in us. She's the teacher I will never forget. She will always have an impact on my life, whether it be now or when I'm 50. Right now, she is my teacher. After I graduate, she'll be my lifelong friend. Thank you, Mrs. Johnson.”
Golden Apple Award winner Shelley Johnson says, “I just want to do a really, really, really good job with our choirs to make all of you proud of our program. Thank you.”
For 25 years, Shelley Johnson has worked countless hours teaching music and directing choirs. She's at school almost every night until nine o'clock. Weekends are packed with competitions, but she loves it.
Johnson says, “When you're tired of practicing, that's when you need to give it up, because performances are always fun, but I'm not tired of practicing yet.”
Student Gavin Mosier wrote the touching letter nominating Mrs. Johnson.
Mosier says, “I think probably when I wake up 50 years from now, I'll probably think, well, I really miss show choir and I really miss Shelley and I'm hoping I'll get to see her again through the years.”
Gavin probably doesn't have to worry about that. Mrs. Johnson makes it a point to keep in touch with former students. She enjoys that, but the moments she spends working with them here at school are the times she treasures the most.
