BLUFFTON, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- Many students at Bluffton High School are wowed by a new teacher on staff so much so, that they nominated her for the Golden Apple Award.

Student Jenae Steffen says, "As her students, we have loved her new ideas in the classroom and throughout the school as well. She challenges her students but related to them by making lessons fun and memorable."

Another student Audry Estill says, "Her time here at Bluffton is spent not only being a teacher, she spends most of her free time coaching swimming as well. Recently, she started Bluffton High School's First Dance Company, attracting and involving a wide variety of students. All proceeds from performances go to charity. Mrs. Burman inspired us to nominate her for the Golden Apple Award."

Teacher Amanda Burman, Golden Apple Award winner says, "It's great that I was able to get a job here and I love all of you guys and girls and thank you!"

This is only the second year of teaching for Amanda Burman, but already, she's beloved by countless students here at Bluffton High School. Four members of the student council nominated her for the award.

"She just makes it fun for anyone to learn and be energetic in her class just like how she teaches," says student Connelly Mettler.

"She's just really passionate about what she does," says student Audry Estill, "everything she does is passionate and she started the Dance Company which is very cool and everything goes to charity - it's awesome. I'll remember her for a long time."

Mrs. Burman never thought she'd be a teacher. When she started college, she aspired to be a businesswoman, but after one year, she changed her major.

Burman says, "And I went into English Education and my grades skyrocketed, I had friends, I loved it and it just clicked. My grades clicked, my aspirations clicked and obviously, getting a job clicked. So, everything just seemed to fall into place as it should."

Congratulations, Mrs. Burman.

Many thanks to the companies sponsoring the Golden Apple Award: Bradley Gough Diamonds gave Mrs. Burman a Golden Apple pin, Vorderman volkswagen gave her a free car detailing and Afdent presented her with a free Brite Smile service.
