FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- When someone takes a leap of faith and impresses you in the process, you want others to know.

Sally Segerson knows how to go The Extra Mile, and she hopes to have other people along for the journey.

Sally is rather newly-known by hundreds in Fort Wayne's homeless community as the woman in the yellow hoodie, driving the white van.

The PBS39 sales rep made a recent commitment to be there regularly for people who need her no matter the weather... no matter the location... no matter a recipient's shyness.

Lisa Sandstrom volunteers at PBS39 and met Sally there.

Lisa Sandstrom says, "She puts it on Facebook, and I follow all of her posts. It started in January when she did the homeless count, but I've been following along what she does for these people, and it absolutely inspires me to the point where I'm walking in the Homeward Bound Walk at the end of the month because of what I've learned about the homeless people from Sally."

Sally Segerson says, "So many people that are no different than you and me... the number of these people, particularly those that are newly-homeless, that were simply one paycheck or two paychecks away from being homeless... and that could happen to so many here in the city of Fort Wayne."

Lisa Sandstrom says, "She feeds them, she gives them clothing. She's actually had cases where she gives people new clothing, takes their current clothing home, wash it and bring it back to them. It's not all pretty all the time, not all roses for her. There's some danger involved, and she's incredibly brave to come down here and do this."

Sally Segerson says, "If you could meet them, you could not turn your back on them. You do it because it's the right thing to do, and it's an honor."

Sally says she's going to be there for our homeless as long as they need her. She has a long list of local businesses where people can drop off donations. You can reach her at PBS39.
