EDGERTON, Ohio. (www.incnow.tv) – This month in "The Extra Mile" meet Angie Paff of Edgerton, Ohio.
She travels from her home to northeast Indiana communities regularly to visit and work with homeless veterans.
Fort Wayne is the only city or town with shelters like Liberty Landing on South Calhoun that are dedicated to giving veterans a place to meet, stay, transition and share.
Three years ago Angie and the folks with American Legion District Four, which covers eight area counties, wanted to do more.
Angie even donates time at the local VA Hospital.
Angie draws inspiration from her father-in-law who served in World War II and from her son-in-law who entered the military at age 18 age 40.
Larry Wickert, who nominated Angie, says, "She works hard. She puts her heart and soul in it. I just thought she deserved to be recognized for it."
Angie Paff, The Extra Mile recipient, says, "It's an honor, you know, that Larry did that for me."
Larry says, "Just to give you an example. She collects a lot of hygiene products for homeless people in general, especially veterans, that's the focus. But, she assembles those packages and then takes them down to the rescue mission and various places in town."
Angie says, "I like working with them. There's a high suicide rate in homeless veterans and veterans coming back from the military, and if we can just help them and let them know that their service was appreciated. They're not forgotten."
Angie hopes to draw out veterans in outlying communities.
She'll be in Columbia City at the American Legion on May 24 from 10 to 5.
