FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Every month I have the pleasure of introducing you to people who've been nominated for a nice recognition sponsored by HearCare Audiology for going "The Extra Mile."

This month? Our youngest recipient! 10 year old Ben Wilder.

He, his sisters and their parents volunteer as a family at the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission serving lunches each month. They also raise money!

Ben got the ball rolling about 3 years ago when he was inspired to help the hungry and wanted to hold a marathon. That later switched to a bowl-a-thon, something they've done every year, something that may switch to a walk this year.

Ben's parents are so proud. The entire family credits God for inspiring Ben at a very young age, and the folks at the Rescue Mission couldn't be more thankful.

Ben Wilder says, "I was watching tv in the basement, and I saw a commercial for people that were gonna help the homeless with a walk-a-thon, so I thought to myself...those people can make a difference, so I'll try to make a difference in the community too."

Nancy Wilder, Ben's mom, says, "And then I said okay. You said you wanted to help the homeless and the hungry. Then we need to contact the Rescue Mission."

Diane Richardson, Executive Administrative Assistant, Fort Wayne Rescue Mission, says, "As long as I've been here, that is the first time that that's happened...that a young man, a young boy, came to us with a heart willing to serve."

Nancy says, "It's rewarding to see your children care about somebody less fortunate."

Ben says, "I just get the love, and I just feel that I made a difference, and I just help some people get back on their feet so they can go have a better life than they're having right now."

Diane calls Ben active, adventurous and affectionate.

Such a giving heart at such a young age!
