HUNTINGTON, Ind. (21Alive) -- Being a shepherd in one's Faith means helping to bring others to share in your beliefs.

Time now for my monthly special report, "The Extra Mile."

A woman from a church in Huntington is known for bringing children to Jesus Christ.

Barbara Ables and her husband began taking Jason Little to their church, Bethel Assembly of God in Huntington, years ago when Jason was a little boy.

He's now 36, and they still go to church together!

Barbara's been a bus driver for children at the church.

Now, Jason does the same.

For some 30 years, Barbara has done that and so much more to volunteer and to help children.

Jason nominated Barbara because of her heart and because her husband's memory is seriously affected by his dementia these days, and Jason wanted to do something nice for a dear woman.

Barbara says, "I guess I've never thought of myself as a person that goes the extra mile for anything. It's just something that I do because I want to be a servant. And, so to be a servant and serve, you gotta get out there and do it!"

Jason says, " Barb deserved it. She's always there for me. She's always a phone call away. Anytime I need her, she's always there. She was always there to encourage me, to support me, to lift my spirits. She brought me into the church and showed me the true way of life, the right from the wrong."

Barbara says, "That's my goal, you know, to do whatever He wants me to do and whatever ways he gets my heart to go whether it's in kids ministries or whatever. When they're little, and you're out, and they see you, they come up and give you hugs...or then you have a parent that comes up and says, 'I wanna thank you for what you've done for my child, and what you've done to help them.' And, it's just a reward...you just don't know how it feels until it actually happens to ya."

Jason says what Barbara has shown him, he is passing on to young people in his life.
