September Golden Apple Recipient: Jim Folland

By Jennifer Blomquist

We have a chemistry teacher here who is the most dedicated teacher I’ve every known. He’ll come to school whenever a student asks him to - be it early morning or late in the evening. He even gave up his beloved position of baseball coach here so he could spend more time with his students in the classroom. I know the lessons he teaches are ones we'll use for many years after we graduate.

Congratulations to mister Jim Folland... The recipient of this months Golden Apple Award.

“This is my fifth year and uh, I have the utmost respect for the students that I’ve worked with here at Churubusco,” says Jim Folland.

Judging from the applause, the feeling is mutual. Besides basic chemistry, mister Folland teaches the rigorous a-p chemistry for students hoping to earn college credit from the high school course.

Jim adds, “it's just an opportunity to step 'em up and help them to get from being a dependent-type learner to an independent-type learner and we're trying to get them prepared for college.”

Nominating student Katy woodruff feels prepared to tackle a future career in nursing.

“Not only has he been a teacher, but I was able to talk to him about college and school and stuff like that,” says senior, Katy Woodruff

Katy and her classmates know the road from here will be easier to manage thanks to the phenomenal teaching and people skills of mister Folland.
